About the position
As the Director of Business Development (District Sales) at American Express, you will play a pivotal role in leading a district sales team within the Eastern Region of Merchant Acquisition. This position is designed for a dynamic leader who can develop and execute a winning sales strategy aimed at selling merchant card acceptance to high-value merchant prospects. You will oversee a team of six virtual colleagues, specifically Managers of Business Development, across a two-state territory, focusing on prospects with annual sales revenues of up to $1 billion. Your leadership will be crucial in generating top-line growth while ensuring bottom-line profitability and maintaining high margins for the Merchant Services - U.S. business. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing an acquisition strategy and designing clear execution plans. You will develop and utilize tools to manage the sales process, ensuring that quantifiable metrics are in place. Collaboration with other internal business partners will be essential to accelerate and drive the business forward. Understanding the diverse needs within your territories will allow you to highlight the appropriate products and value propositions that drive profitable charge volume. A key aspect of this position is your ability to coach and develop your team, guiding them through a transformation to a B2B-focused sales organization in an increasingly competitive and rapidly changing payment industry landscape. Your impact will be felt through effective management and motivation of your team's performance and sales success. You will ensure adherence to proper business processes, conduct, and compliance controls. Regular coaching will be provided to enhance each team member's sales effectiveness, and you will oversee the building and management of profitable pipelines. Sharing best practices, sales strategies, and marketplace intelligence will be part of your responsibilities, as will serving as an escalation point for team members facing challenges. Additionally, you will manage sales tracking reporting, expense processing, and operating and marketing budgets for your team.

Responsibilities
- Lead a district sales team of 6 virtual colleagues (Managers of Business Development) within a two-state territory.
- Develop and execute a winning sales strategy to sell merchant card acceptance to high-value merchant prospects.
