The Department of Mining and Mineral Engineering (MINE) of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Mining Engineering starting Fall 2025. This position is a joint appointment between MINE and the Institute of Northern Engineering (INE), the research arm of the College of Engineering and Mines (CEM), with roughly 49% of the level of effort dedicated to INE research and 51% of the level of effort dedicated to the MINE tenure track academic position.

Success requires a strong foundation in the core principles of mining engineering. Building a robust research program, securing funding, and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals are essential for academic growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a BS degree in Mining Engineering, or a closely related field, preferably from an ABET-accredited program.
Ph.D. in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Prior research and teaching experience in the field.
Preferred experience in hydro-metallurgy and geo-metallurgy will receive strong consideration. Additional preference will be given to candidates with expertise in rare earth and critical mineral extraction, fieldwork related to critical minerals in districts with limited infrastructure; and mining and processing waste management in circumpolar/arctic environments.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, 9-month exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary is based on experience and education and is negotiable.
