The Actuarial Assistant position at RGA involves performing valuation and financial reporting duties while supporting senior valuation actuaries. The role requires the development and maintenance of actuarial models that are essential for planning, reporting, economic capital refinement, cash flow testing, and other related functions. The Actuarial Assistant will be responsible for conducting detailed Statutory, Tax, and GAAP valuation work for assigned life and health blocks, reviewing financial results, and providing technical support through various software applications, including desktop applications, relational databases, and commercial actuarial software. In this position, the Actuarial Assistant will interact with other departments and offices within RGA to ensure that financial results and plans are accurately portrayed and completed in a timely manner. The role also includes assisting in the development of an enhanced financial planning and projection infrastructure, as well as advanced financial reporting frameworks. The Actuarial Assistant will be expected to maintain regular attendance and contribute to the overall success of the Valuation & Financial Analysis Department. The responsibilities of the Actuarial Assistant include developing, maintaining, and reviewing actuarial models for assigned business blocks, performing valuation work, developing unbiased financial plans, and assisting with the communication of financial results. The role also involves providing support to senior valuation actuaries and participating in special projects, as well as recommending improvements to underlying processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and/or reviews actuarial models for assigned blocks of business.
  • Performs Statutory, Tax, and GAAP valuation work for assigned life and annuity blocks.
  • Develops unbiased financial plans for assigned blocks of business and assists with the communication of financial results in terms of major sources of variance.
  • Provides assistance with the enhancement of the Company's projection and planning infrastructure, especially as it pertains to the development of common data repositories.
  • Provides support to senior valuation actuaries and assists with special projects.
  • Serves as a liaison with other valuation, administration, and accounting associates.
  • Participates in the development and enhancement of underlying processes and recommends improvements.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, or related field.
  • Completion of P, FM, IFM, LTAM, STAM, and/or SRM actuarial exams.
  • Intermediate PC and technical skills, including database applications (Access, Oracle, SQL or equivalent technology), spreadsheets, statistical programs, and actuarial software.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, refine, and interpret large amounts of financial data/results and model projections.
  • Competent knowledge and understanding of actuarial concepts.
  • Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability.
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
