The Bridge to Jobs Program ("BRIDGE") creates alternative job pathways into semi-skilled classifications by way of on-the-job training periods. BRIDGE provides an opportunity to those that face significant barriers to stable employment, and will further the City's vision for identifying innovative ways to attract, develop, and sustain an equitable workforce.

 

REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

 

  1. Referral from a WorkSource Center designated as an Application Site by the City of Los Angeles; and
  2. A letter of recommendation from the personnel office of the employing department, which includes a statement of the department's willingness to hire the employee; and
  3. Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or equivalent from a U.S. institution; or
  4. A certification approved by the City of Los Angeles for a specific job pathway in the Bridge to Jobs Program; or
  5. A qualifying score on the aptitude test administered by the City of Los Angeles' Personnel Department.
 
NOTES:
  1. Applicants must obtain a referral code from a WorkSource Center designated as an Application Site by the City of Los Angeles. Applicants who fail to include a referral code in the designated section on the application will not be considered further in this examination.
  2. The letter of recommendation from the personnel office of the employing department described in Requirement No. 2 is required at the time of hire. Candidates may apply for BRIDGE but cannot be hired until the letter of recommendation from the employing department is submitted. 
  3. All applicants applying under Requirement No. 3 or Requirement No. 4 must list their school name, location, type of certification earned, and completion dates in the Education section of the on-line application. 
  4. All applicants applying under Requirement No. 3 and Requirement No. 4 must submit proof of their high school diploma or equivalent or proof of their approved certification to the Application Site approved by the City of Los Angeles by providing a copy of their original diploma, certification, or official transcripts at the time that the online application is submitted online.  Applicants who fail to submit proof of a high school diploma or equivalent or proof of an approved certification at the time of filing WILL NOT be considered further  and their applications will be returned.
  5. All applicants applying under Requirement No. 5 will be contacted by the Personnel Department via email with instructions regarding their test date and time.

 

WHERE TO APPLY & APPLICATION DEADLINE

 

Visit a Referral Agency approved by the City of Los Angeles for a Program Overview and obtain a BRIDGE Referral Form. You will then be referred to an Application Site for a valid referral code and to submit an online application. 

 

SELECTION PROCESS

 

All applications for BRIDGE will be reviewed to ensure that there is a valid referral code from a WorkSource Center designated as an Application Site by the City of Los Angeles and that at least one (1) of Requirements No. 3, 4, 5, or 6 have been fulfilled, including submission of proof to the Application Site. Those applications that have a valid referral code and meet at least one (1) of the requirements stated will be accepted and eligible to be randomly selected for referral opportunities when there is a vacancy.

Please note that BRIDGE does not guarantee a referral, interview or a City job.
 
NOTES:
  1. The City's Aptitude Test is based on a validation study.
  2. If you choose to take the City's Aptitude Test, please note: You may take City's Aptitude Test only once every 6 months. If you have taken the City's aptitude test within the last 6 months, you may not apply to take this test at this time.
  3. As a covered entity under the Fair Employment and Housing Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the City of Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of disability and upon request, will provide reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to its programs, services, and activities. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  1. In accordance with Los Angeles City Ordinance 187134, candidates must meet the minimum requirement of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive an exemption and report their vaccination status prior to being hired by the hiring City department. 
  2. If you are hired, you may be required to pass an annual or periodic work fitness evaluation to determine your eligibility for continued employment.
  3. If you are hired as an Inspector Trainee, you may be required to furnish an automobile, properly insured, for use in City service. Mileage will be paid according to established rates. 
  4. Some positions may require a valid California driver's license. Candidates may not be eligible for hire into these positions if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI).
  5. If you are hired as a "Trainee" through BRIDGE, you will be hired into temporary training positions in accordance with Section 5.30 of the Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners for a maximum duration of five years. New hires who do not successfully complete the temporary training period will be terminated.
