The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) is seeking a CDOC Technician III for the Office of Offender Services. This position is crucial in supporting facilities by effectively managing offenders through accurate classification, effective case planning, offender and bed management, and computation of time.

The Time & Release Operations unit within Offender Services is responsible for implementing incarceration and release decisions as mandated by Colorado Courts and the Colorado State Board of Parole, ensuring compliance with state statutes, case laws, and administrative regulations. The role involves calculating dates of parole eligibility, mandatory release, and discharge, as well as verifying the accuracy of documentation by auditing legal sentencing documents. Additionally, the technician will analyze documents to determine appropriate sentencing structures, taking into account various factors such as parole violations and prior offenses. In the Court Services unit, the technician will manage the link between the CDOC and law enforcement jurisdictions, validating information concerning court orders and managing the jail backlog of state-sentenced inmates. Responsibilities include coordinating transportation of offenders to court hearings, verifying offender locations, and ensuring timely communication with relevant DOC facilities. The technician will also be required to perform other duties as assigned, which may include obtaining training in all aspects of time computation and release operations while managing a moderate caseload. This position is open only to Colorado state residents and may be used to fill future vacancies.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate dates of parole eligibility, mandatory release, and discharge.
  • Verify accuracy of documentation by auditing legal sentencing documents for compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes.
  • Analyze documents to determine appropriate sentencing structure considering various factors.
  • Implement the release process for persons being paroled or released by court order.
  • Analyze information and warrants found through the CCIC/NCIC network.
  • Receive and validate information from law enforcement concerning court orders and writs.
  • Verify offender location for scheduled pick up or return and notify applicable DOC facility.
  • Obtain court dispositions of offenders returning from court and transmit to case manager and Time Release.
  • Coordinate with DOC Central Transport Unit to provide transportation of offenders to court hearings.
  • Research and clarify discrepancies of mittimi and originate information systems records.

Requirements

  • Three years of technical or high-level clerical experience.
  • Ability to obtain NCIC/CCIC operator license.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and courteously with internal/external customers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Detail-oriented and highly accurate with basic math skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes and remain flexible.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical experience or high-level clerical experience working with the State of Colorado.
