Maintenance Group Supervisor - JFK Airport

The Maintenance Group Supervisor is a front-line supervisory role that oversees several crafts which include carpentry, paint, and locksmith shops and other associated shops. This position is part of a team of Maintenance Supervisors and craft persons who work 24/7 to ensure JFK remains a safe and efficient operation at all times. The Maintenance Group Supervisor will be responsible for planning, implementing, directing, scheduling, and coordinating the work of skilled, semi-skilled and entry level crafts persons. The selected candidate will also be responsible for monitoring work performance, and ensuring all work is completed safely and within Port Authority Rules and Regulations and accepted trade procedures. The Maintenance Group Supervisor will also administer provisions for the labor agreements and sick absence control policies. The selected candidate will initiate and provide administrative support to their section including but not limited to scheduling of time off, initiating employee discipline, identifying, training and developmental needs, managing the budget, and contract administration.

Responsibilities


The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Manage the attendance and disciplinary requirements of staff by utilizing available measures in a timely fashion in accordance with multiple union agreements and agency policy.

  • Manage the activities of maintenance personnel and the care of maintenance equipment.

  • Execute the workload as established in the Maximo system and as directed by the unit head, Landside and Airside areas. Provide status reports as needed.

  • Participate in the snow removal plan; schedule, coordinate, observe and maintain snow training procedures/records for personnel.

  • Ability to proactively instill safe work habits, work independently, display initiative, good judgment, and decisiveness.




Additional Information

  • This is a rotation of the day, night & overnight tours, Monday through Sunday.

  • The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges.

  • The selected candidate is required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24 hour/7 day a week basis and must be available to work any shift necessary as determined by operational need, including weekends and holidays and work overtime as a regular function of the job.

  • If a Non-PAMSA Employee is selected and accepts the long-term project position the employee would forfeit their previous permanent position and would become a permanent Port Authority FM Supervisor represented by PAMSA holding a temporary position. Further details will be provided by HRD at the time of the offer.

  • Must be able to respond to declared emergencies, including snow conditions and work on an overtime basis as a regular function of the job.


Minimum Qualifications

 


Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered for this position:

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

 


Desired Qualifications

 


  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system and its use to accomplish Preventative, Corrective, and Emergency work, including scheduling, work order updating, and labor management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction practices, ability to read and interpret blueprints, NYC building code compliance and personnel protection equipment implementation and use.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.
  • Ability to learn and administer union contract agreements.
  • Ability to coordinate work with other craft groups and to organize several jobs simultaneously.
  • Ability to supervise work of subordinates and train new employees.
  • Ability to work with and provide oversight and direction to contractors, ensuring the compliance of contract specifications and safety of Port Authority assets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of snow removal activities at a facility.
  • Knowledge of FAR 139 Regulations regarding the maintenance airfield operations.
