Park Ranger I - Pikes Peak- America's Mountain

In this position, you will be responsible for patrolling the Pikes Peak Highway (PPHWY), daily operations of the Gateway (tollgate), and other programs. This position is located in Cascade, CO and requires the ability to work at an altitude of 14,115 feet.
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:


We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:

  • The Pikes Peak Highway, including the road and weather conditions
  • Incident and emergency response procedures
  • Park Ranger operations and associated roles and responsibilities
  • Basic vehicle maintenance
  • Cash handling and cash reconciliation practices
  • Area attractions, including recreational activities
  • Modern office technology


Ability To:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing


Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field.


Education and Experience Equivalency: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Certifications and Licenses: Must possess or be able to acquire the following certifications and/or licenses required in accordance with standards established by departmental policy.

  • Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and First Aid certifications
  • Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, First Aid Certification


Preferred Qualifications

  • Cash handling and cash reconciliation experience
  • Leave No Trace or Interpretive training/certifications
  • Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or higher certification
  • Experience operating snow plows or similar equipment
  • Experience with Point of Sale software systems
  • Have attended Ranger Excellence School or equivalent training program(s)

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to reach, bend, climb, kneel, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; lift and carry 50 pounds; use fingers, hands, and legs; and distinguish colors
