Distinguishing Features of Work
This is part-time seasonal general maintenance work in park maintenance, forestry maintenance and/or golf course maintenance activities. As work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to somewhat more difficult tasks. Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor who issues general instructions for routine jobs and specific instructions at the beginning of each new job when departures are made from established procedures.
THIS IS A LIMITED PART-TIME POSITION

The day and hours for this position: varies, 6:30am - 3:00pm

Examples of Work Performed

  • Mowing, trimming and other duties related to turf care.
  • Operate motorized vehicles such as tractors, riding lawn mowers, and trucks.
  • Trash pick around athletic fields, parks and ROW.
  • Loads and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, timber, leaves, and similar items.
  • Assists skilled and semiskilled workers in varied park maintenance, golf maintenance and other repair activities.
  • Shovels snow and breaks ice from streets and walks and loads snow on trucks or piles it in designated places.
  • Waters lawns, trims shrubs and trees, spades, rakes, and otherwise prepares ground and assists in related ground maintenance work.
  • Waters, spreads fertilizer, and cares for flowers, shrubs and trees as directed.

Requirements of Work

  • Ability to acquire within a reasonable period of time, knowledge of the procedures, tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work
  • Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions
  • Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist
  • Ability to shovel, snow, sand, gravel, to or from dump truck bed
  • Ability to safely operate mowing tractor over rough terrain for several hours at a time
  • Ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry bulky items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to be continuously performing tasks that require one to push, pull, climb (ladders and in and out of vehicular equipment), bend, twist, reach, stand, and walk about (up to a half mile at a time) for most of an eight hour shift
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Will require possession of and ability to maintain a valid Kansas commercial driver's license (CDL)
  • An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • A valid Kansas Driver's License.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Training
  • Experience with general maintenance in park, forestry

Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
