Sr Network Dev Engineer, Network Provisioning and Automation (Level 6) ID-12461

About the position

Network Provisioning and Automation(NPA) is looking for a Senior Network Development Engineer who is passionate, innovative and has a strong drive to automate and simplify. This position will report directly to the Software Development Manager for NPA and will be responsible for all tools related to network automation within Amazon's fulfillment networks. The NPA team builds and continuously improves the corep network provisioning components used by tens of thousands of Amazonians, hundreds of thousands of IP enabled devices, a growing fleet of robots, and countless other user devices in our facilities around the world. You'll be part of a world-class team in a fast-paced environment that has the entrepreneurial feel of a start-up. You will work directly with other systems, and software engineers to help automate and improve the technology that supports our Fulfillment Centers and Transportation sites. We are looking for a Network Development Engineer to provide technical thought leadership in the of our next-generation networks. As we look to the future, our networks will support an ecosystem of robotics, industrial IoT, sensors, drones, and mobile devices. You are comfortable with taking risks, and iterating on designs that may fail at the outset to ultimately deliver robust systems that elegantly scale. Information security and network reliability are at the core of your thought processes, and you are respected as an influencer. In this role you will build tools and be part of the largest fulfillment network in the world, and provide guidance to and mentoring to network support teams to develop their skills and reinforce best practices. Network reliability is critical to Amazon Operations, and your responsibilities will include driving root cause resolution of provisioning events most impact-full to the business. Our team's mandate is to create mechanisms that enable automated provisioning of network infrastructure stacks including discovery, bootstrapping, configuration, operational readiness and recovery in case of failure in order to eliminate human involvement and realize the full potential of zero-touch network managed by software. This is a high ownership role with significant scope, we value your ideas and are looking for people who want to help innovate. As an Amazon Software Network Engineer, you will help tackle a diverse landscape of technical challenges. We are a greenfield initiative, and you will play an active role in translating business requirements into concrete systems and prototyping concepts in partnership with technology leaders within the team and across the business. You will design, develop and deploy reliable distributed solutions that operate at Amazon scale. You will be exposed to a variety of core languages and technologies including Java, Python, Linux, and AWS services, including GreenGrass and IOT. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and will have the opportunity to work alongside talented Amazon engineers to redefine an industry. Responsibilities

  • Implement new software by designing, coding and launching global edge compute automation systems
  • Design software solutions for emerging business use cases
  • Partner with SDMs and PMs to gather requirements and define features
  • Identify problems and develop solutions; embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques
  • Work with the SDM for NPA to lead teams of talented engineers, develop their engineering capabilities and guide them on making the correct technical decisions

Requirements

  • 5+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
  • 8+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
  • 5+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with Machine Learning and AI is an asset
