Responsibilities

  • Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.
  • Climb utility poles or towers, utilize truck mounted lift-bucket or descend into underground vaults.
  • Cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections, as well as cut and peel sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
  • Test (trace or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, digital drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
  • Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR, and fusion splicing equipment, and ensure functionality.
  • Complete daily production reports of work performed.
  • Respond to emergency call outs as needed, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended days.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
  • Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work in emergencies at night and weekends if needed, including holidays and extended days.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to lift and pull up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work within time constraints.
